Myelin Cloud (Shenzhen) Technology Co., Ltd. ("we", "us") operates the Yi Yan English platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Law of the People's Republic of China (PIPL) and other applicable regulations.

By using the Platform, you consent to the practices described in this Policy.

Account information: Email address, password (stored as a one-way hash — we never see your plaintext password), account role (student or teacher), and phone number if provided.

Student profile: First name, last name, gender (optional), profile photo (optional), current English level (determined by placement test), confidence stage, preferred accent, and stated learning goals and track.

Teacher profile: First name, last name, nationality, accent type, biography, specialisations, teaching styles, hourly rate, availability schedule, verified status, and video introduction URL if provided.

AI practice data: Inputs you submit during AI conversation and writing practice sessions, used in real time to generate feedback. Your practice inputs are processed by our AI provider to generate responses; the AI provider does not retain your inputs beyond the session for training purposes.

Booking data: Session date and time, duration, session type, topic, booking status (pending / confirmed / completed / cancelled / no-show), student-facing notes, and teacher notes recorded after a session.

Reviews: Star ratings (overall, clarity, engagement, flexibility) and written comments submitted after completed sessions.

Payment records: Transaction references and amounts. We do not store full card numbers or payment credentials — payment processing will be handled by regulated payment providers (WeChat Pay, Alipay, or Stripe) when integrated.

Device & technical data: IP address, device type, operating system, browser type, and error logs collected automatically when you use the Platform.

Support communications: Messages you send to our support team.

• To create and manage your account and profile.
• To match students with appropriate teachers using your placement results, goals, accent preference, and availability.
• To facilitate bookings, confirmations, and reminders for sessions.
• To process payments and, for teachers, to calculate and record session earnings.
• To display reviews and ratings on teacher public profiles.
• To personalise your AI practice sessions based on your skill level and learning track.
• To track your confidence stage progress and learning track within the Platform.
• To send service-related notifications (booking confirmations, reminders, policy updates).
• To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
• To comply with our legal obligations under Chinese law.
• To analyse aggregated, anonymised usage patterns to improve the Platform.

We do not use your personal information for advertising profiling or sell it to third parties for marketing purposes.

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in the following circumstances:

• Between students and teachers: When you book a session, your first name, English level, confidence stage, and session details are shared with the assigned teacher. The teacher's profile information (name, bio, ratings, availability) is visible to all registered students.
• Payment providers: When payment processing is activated, transaction data will be shared with WeChat Pay, Alipay, or Stripe as necessary to complete payments. These providers operate under their own privacy policies.
• Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by Chinese law, court order, or a competent government authority.
• Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred to the successor entity, subject to the same privacy commitments.
• With your explicit consent: For any other purpose not listed above, we will ask for your consent first.

Storage location: Your personal data is stored on servers located within the People's Republic of China, in compliance with PIPL data localisation requirements.

Security measures: We implement industry-standard security including TLS encryption for data in transit, bcrypt one-way hashing for passwords, JWT-based authentication with short-lived tokens, and role-based access controls limiting who within the Platform can access your data.

Retention: We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active, plus up to 3 years after account closure to meet legal and tax compliance requirements. Aggregated, anonymised usage statistics may be retained indefinitely for platform improvement.

Under the Personal Information Protection Law, you have the right to:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information. Much of your profile information can be updated directly in your account settings.
• Deletion: Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal retention requirements. You may delete your account at any time from settings.
• Portability: Request a machine-readable export of your personal data.
• Withdraw consent: Withdraw consent for optional data processing at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
• Restrict processing: Object to certain uses of your data.

Our web platform uses browser cookies and local storage to maintain your login session and remember your language preference. These are strictly necessary for the Platform to function.

We do not use third-party advertising trackers, analytics cookies that build advertising profiles, or sell data to advertising networks.

Our Platform is strictly for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has registered, contact us immediately at privacy@yiyanenglish.com and we will delete the account promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the Platform evolves. We will notify you of material changes via email or an in-app notice at least 15 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Platform after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
